True Grit

True Grit

After hired hand, Tom Chaney (Brolin) kills her farmer father and flees, indomitable 14 year-old Mattie Ross (Steinfeld) hires tough, one-eyed US Marshal and heavy-drinking reprobate Reuben J. ‘Rooster’ Cogburn (Bridges) — a man with “true grit” — to bring him in. Joined by Texas Ranger La Boeuf (Damon), the odd posse head into Indian territory on their manhunt.

5 out 5 for me - Jeff Bridges is undeniably one of the brilliant actors. He plays the gritty character with apparent ease. Memories of The Big Lebowski type role (great film). A lovable undesirable. And Matt Damon - well I was surprised it was him. I am increasingly admiring his acting abilities. The girl was good - it's a great part to have played. A strong character for a debut (well I think it's an early start in her acting anyway). As always the scene shooting seems just so easy. I thought the scene riding Blackie was a little contrived. I think I know the surreal effect that was trying to be implied - poisoned mind sensations. But somehow it seemed "plastic" for me from what previously had been so compelling. I liked the characters and cared about them.
The telling of the story seemed simple but somehow that's what the Coen brothers seem to do for me. They tell a story with all it's complexities and a distinctive manner that is almost undefinable in it's form. Just ever so, ever so enjoyable.
A definite worthwhile film.

And good humorous and easy going company with AM. She is a very dear friend indeed. I am ease with AM. I forget sometimes that that feeling is a very good indicator.

I am thankful for ML too.  A great long chat on my return. Funny and also very sad and real too.

Bed time, goodnight
